9th Annual International Human Trafficking Conference

The Life On Point Team will be a presenter at the 9th Annual Human Trafficking Conference in Toledo, Ohio September 27-29, 2012 to discuss their ongoing efforts at stopping human trafficking throughout Asia.

The team from Life On Point Consultants has been invited to present an overview of ongoing anti-human trafficking efforts in Asia with specific emphasis inside Burma, states Brian Hayes, Life On Point President and CEO. “We are very excited to present at such an important venue as the 9th Annual International Human Trafficking, Prostitution and Sex Work Conference as our work directly correlates what others are currently doing in this arena.” Hayes went on to give a general overview of conditions within Burma stating, “Burma is a source and transit country for human trafficking” and, “the military regime is the main perpetrator of human trafficking abuses both within the country and abroad.”Hayes also went on to note that Burma has major internal trafficking routes from rural areas to border areas with China and Thailand, particularly in population centers close to mining camps, military bases, fishing villages, and military camps. “Children are trafficked internally for forced labor in agriculture and small-scale industries or as child soldiers”. Hayes also stated that trafficking within Burma continues to be a significant problem primarily “due to the military’s unlawful conscription of child soldiers and the fact that it is the main perpetrator of forced labor inside the country.”
